Award-winning Shine ZC, the zero-carbon housing scheme in Woods Lane, Derby, is finished.
The ground-breaking project features masonry heat storage, the facility to collect more than 9,000 litres of waste water for re-use, and electricity generated from cooking oil and solar panels.
Developed in partnership between Loughborough University, East Midlands Development Agency, and East Midlands Renewable Energy, the scheme accommodates 6 houses and 3 apartments.
Once occupied, energy usage will be monitored with a hi-tech building management system and will determine whether this new technology will work in practice as well as it works in theory.
